Pest Control Training -- How to Get a Job as an Exterminator

If you are interested in a career as an exterminator, there is more to it than just filling out a job application and getting hired. You will need pest control training before you are able to work in this field. There are various training courses you will need to attend before you can get certified to do this type of work. You may have a trade school in your area that offers such a program. If not, a little searching may be in order.

You may want to first begin your search on the Internet. Here you will find a wide variety of resources for all job fields, including extermination. If you cannot find the advice you need online, the next step is to check your Yellow Pages. Call around to the various exterminating companies and ask them if you can come in and ask some questions about working in this field. Even if they're not hiring, some companies will be happy to talk to you. Talking to a professional exterminator can be the best way to break into this job field.

For example, they can tell you how they got into the business. They might even be able to refer you to an educational facility where you can train for this type of career. There is also on-the-job training and apprenticeships. You may find a pest control company that offers this kind of training. You will work alongside a certified exterminator and learn the ropes in a hands-on way. Then, you will likely be required to take tests before you can become a certified exterminator. It might seem like a lot of hassle, but it's worth it.

Pest control training pays off in the end. A career as an exterminator can be very lucrative. Not only that, but the right training teaches you how to safely do your job and help people get rid of damaging pests. Exterminators use dangerous chemicals which are poisonous to people and pets, that is, unless they use organic methods. This is why it is so crucial to understand how to properly use these chemicals. You don't want to harm yourself or the people you are helping with improper extermination methods.
